  1. For me it's almost the same thing as 1.3, except maybe a little little bit faster. However, netflix for me right now is not working :((

I didn't try netflix for about two weeks on 1.3, but last time it was working. Now it is opening, I can select movies but when trying to launch, the movie is black and I heard the audio.

  2. I confirm, when I downgrade, no more black screen for video in 1.3.1.

I really can't see any diff between 1.3 and 1.3.1. Even the speed I spoke about might not totally be true. My 1.3 was slower but I installed more crap, so with a clean to clean comparison, I won't say the 1.3.1 beats the 1.3.

    Michel

PS: Maybe there are some more features but I don't use them. On my side, I want hsdroid, droidmote server, netflix, tunein radio, that's it! :)

Droidmote server is working on the v1.3?

    2. Yes I did nothing particular, the only thing I could say is that I'm using the Ethernet port since I wanted more stability on my netflix feed and on the Droidmote. Even if it could possibly be faster with wireless N. I think that the latency added by wireless is no good.

Sometimes, depending on the screen (like installation of software) I can't use the mouse, I must you the keyboard... but usually everything is flawless!

I bought the droidmote server / client and they're actively developped so the only thing that I could see is maybe people are using outdated software and that could be an issue or there could be a "spyware" added to the server portion that could involve issue with the use of droidmote... I didn't modify anything in a console or by ssh!

But MINIX NEO 5 looks much better.

still the mele is good too and a nice streaming device especially i use it with an older TV for which is have to use cvbs(no other box or player still got analog output) or for wireless speakers...
i will try the new firmware as soon as i can.

    thx thierry!

From my side, the really annoying thing is the Ethernet link down after a while. I don't know the cause, but really annoying to have to hard-reboot the device to get it work again.

  7. Version 1.3.1 runs perfectly. I did however uninstalled the patch which seems to have fixed the audio issue with mp4s. They only issue I have right now is with Netflix. Black screen and audio only. If anybody has a suggestion, greatly appreciated. Also version 1.3.1 is far superior than the neutral version. It seems like they fixed the lan issue, resulting in higher speeds for streaming and watching 1080P videos.

    Thanks

    1. Right, I added the audio patch but it is useless as it is already applied.
Nevertheless applying the patch is harmless.
But it does not fix the Apple .mp4 movie issue, video seek is still not possible. The old v1.2 firmware works OK on this part, but I did not have time to figure out which part has been broken between v1.2 and v1.3.

Thnx. I'm enjoying your 1,3 firmware greatly. Sny other interesting firmwares you know of? CM9/CM10 maybe?

    1. The CM10 firmware has a showstopper: video playback "as is" does not work (you need launch a UPnP server and access your videos via this UPnP server).
I will generate a CM9 firmware to see if it works. My main concern about the Mele firmware is the Ethernet driver that fails after a while in "suspend" mode.

    2. Have you tried removing and reloading the module? same thing happens on my netbook with the trackpad, I just setup a script to remove and reload the module on wake-up

    3. The Ethernet driver is not the problem after some testings.
I ran netperf on the Mele device and I got same performances before and after suspend.
The issue is in the upper layers, don't know where but a reboot makes it disappear; not a big issue.

The safe way should be to let the recovery mode perform the installation without having the system running but I could not figure out how was working the Mele recovery system.
And I did not find any working CWM recovery installation.

  12. Hello Thierry!

I have an inverse issue, not just this version but all of mele FWs.
When my A2000 is in standby regularly (sometimes 1 minute, sometimes 8 minutes or more ) wake up to an "update state".
I try to describe this state: LED is red as usual, no picture on the display, but all USB port and SATA powered up and this is very annoying. All the LEDs of the pendrives are blinking, HDD spins up. So Mele waste a lot of energy but wear away my HDD (regular spin up the biggest enemy of HDDs) also, during the night even annoying because of the noise. Most important thing after standby never shown any update!
Do you see same issue, or you can logging the standby activity for analisys?

    Thanks, Mark

    1. Yes, I observed that too. In suspend mode, something makes it waken up (I think a timer programmed by the system or a system app), and makes it go back into suspend mode.
That's why decided to keep my little NAS server and not connect directly my USB HDD on the Mele device.
The 1.3.1 firmware is supposed to fix that, by keeping Ethernet/USB powered-up even in suspend mode. This lets the USB HDD spin down by itself.

  13. Hi Thierry! First I wanna say that you've done an excellent work so far and now I'm really interested in hacking around with this box. I've read some technical paper on android (from you too) to get in touch with low level stuff. It's been a while that i've tried many times to change the partition size to get bigger space (some stock rom has just 256MB). I've tried with fdisk (through SSH) to create a couple of partitions on NANDK for linking apps (I was thinking of LinkSD or changing mount point for /data) but didn't work. Then I saw that in your rom you maged to get 1GB of space. Is something that you decide when you compile android or it's just some configuration file?

    PS
I have a good knowledge of linux (no probs with shell or understanding scripts) but pretty basic knowledge in programming

    RépondreSupprimer
    Réponses
    1. Well, I did not touch to anything regarding NAND partitions; perhaps old ROMs were setting only 256MB for nandk (/mnt/sdcard) but this one takes what is available (939M on Mele A2000). Be careful with linux on Mele: apart from 3.0.8+ kernel with the particular nand.ko module, other kernels do not see correctly nand partitions (see partition sizes, they differ from Android). Please see the sdcard version, it mounts /data, /cache, /mnt/sdcard on the SDHC card and not on NAND.
I never recompiled anything in this ROMs, just scripts modified/added.
But I am currently looking at CM10.1 from this thread: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/40980-42-for-allwinner/
Works on Mele, but some issues (sound, Ethernet) that needs some compilation... Need to install a 64bits Linux!

You can mount manually the USB device by performing this (via adb shell):

The best way would be to have a Android service app that monitors /proc/partitions and runs the command on presence of sda1...

    2. Yes, before of this i used for a lot of time with Paragon driver for android because i have converted my fat32 2,5 stick in hfs. But this problem happen really really often:

"Anyone know why sometimes when i'm playing every kind of videos (avi, mkv, mp4 etc) my audio broke for a couple of seconds and later play without problems?

This happen very often and 2 o 3 times on a video of 40minutes."

So i think that the problem is the "bad driver/script", so i removed the program and now i'm using the same 2,5 hd in fat32 but this happen anyway.

But for the limit of fat32 (4gb per file) i have to format to ext4.
I'm a bit sad because i bought this box for use only by media center.

      Mount:
from what I see, I am not sure it is mounted (what could be /mnt/sata?).
You must fix correct permissions on the script:
      chmod 755 /etc/init.d/10script
I never tried sata port, but it should populate partitions traditionally, and set /dev/block/sda1
Did you try the mount command by hand already?
